Last year, a client of mine who is a general dentist came to me with information on a popular West Coast trend in dentistry...tooth jewels. We both agreed not promote this trend in fear that folks might take a liking to it on the East Coat. We were not big on this fad and had no desire to look at people with jewelry hanging off their teeth. It was also a good idea that my client avoid being held responsible for creating such a mess!
Well, guess what? You guessed it. The tooth jewel craze has finally hit home! In fact, the trend finally made its way through the U.S. and showed up on my TV this week.
WHAM TV 13, an ABC affiliate station, featured tooth jewels in the 11 o'clock health report.
Who would spend $150 to look like this?
I think that this trend is so hideous that I had to check in with Dave West of West and Company Jewelers to see what he as an expert on jewelry thinks.
D-D: What do you think of the "tooth jewel" trend?
Dave: Just when you think....
D-D: Have we taken "wearing" jewelry too far?
Dave: Well, the subjective nature of the questions aside - I don't really get it. My belief has always been that jewelry is meant to adorn and enhance the wearer. I just don't see how much tooth jewelry does that.
D-D: I think that we are all better off steering clear of this latest newsworthy trend, since it does not enhance the wearer!

Does it look like irritating to people who will see it? It looks like a broken piece.
