Biography

After months of thinking about building my own blog, I finally decided it was time to get started on making this idea a reality.

In acknowledging the rapid growth of consumers using various websites and blogs as a tool and source for information, social support and networking, I knew that creating my very own blog would help me manage public relations campaigns more effectively and share my experiences with others in the PR profession who are just as eager as I am to LEARN!

The launch of my blog has made my dear friend, Yvonne DiVita of WME blogs very happy, as she has been after me for months to get my blog started. I wouldn’t be here without the help of Yvonne.

So here it is! As the Good News Gal, I bring my opinions, expertise and experience in public and media relations to you. You will find real life experiences, news and tips that you’ll hopefully find useful as in gaining credibility as a PR practitioner, representing your clients in the best manner and building relationships with the media that last.

Good News Gal is a blog dedicated to delivering news and insights on public relations, media relations, marketing and reputation management.

I’ve learned everything that I know about developing effective pubic relations campaigns through my personal experiences in the fast-paced business world, formal training / education, and rubbing elbows with some of the brightest professionals out there.

I began my professional career in public relations at Providence College’s Office of Institutional Relations and Publications and I now have over 10 years of experience. I also completed business management courses at the William E. Simon School, University of Rochester and Richmond College in Florence, Italy.

I later returned to Rochester, New York where I joined Xerox Corporation as a marketing manager. In 2002, I began working as an independent public relations consultant to private and public sector clients in the Upstate New York region before founding my own PR firm.

In 2003, I announced the opening of Flannery Public Relations, a full-service communications firm dedicated to increasing the visibility, market share and profits of small to mid size companies. The core competencies of the firm include media relations, product marketing, Internet PR, public affairs, marketing communications, events planning, crisis management, spokesperson training, image coaching and other traditional PR disciplines.

Leveraging long-standing relationships with media and analysts, my firm focuses on building and increasing client awareness by planning and implementing comprehensive and aggressive public relations programs. With a service-oriented philosophy, my firm is dedicated to meeting client marketing objectives and delivering rapid results. Stories that I’ve been successful in securing for our clients have been seen and heard nationally. My firm’s public relations programs are designed at putting clients in front of the people who matter most.

When I am not in the office, I spent time co-chairing committees and volunteering at professionals and charitable organizations. Currently, I am a the Communications Chairperson for American Marketing Association – Rochester Chapter, Publicity Chairperson for the American Diabetes Association’s Tour de Cure Rochester Chapter, Marketing Committee Chairperson for the Susan B. Anthony House and a volunteer at Gilda’s Club Rochester. Previously, I was a member of the Public Relations Society of America – Rochester Chapter and Council Member for the American Diabetes Association.

You are probably wondering whether or not I save anytime for fun. The answer is yes! During “my free time,” I enjoy traveling, sitting on the beach listening to the waves crash, good conversation, skiing, biking and a good Pilates workout.
